For me, the most important thing is to treat children according to current treatment recommendations. It is also very important to avoid unnecessary examinations and procedures. Pediatric surgery is a broad specialty and sometimes I see the best solution for your child to refer you to an even better specialist for your child's condition. Sometimes the best solution is to refer the child to the public sector for further treatment.
Operations
Minor procedures performed under local anesthesia are usually performed in the outpatient clinic room. I perform surgeries under anesthesia flexibly in Helsinki, Hyvinkää and Kotka.
The most common procedures performed during anesthesia are described below. More detailed descriptions of the procedures can be found in the links in the top bar.
Inguinal hernia repair in children is the most common pediatric surgical procedure performed under anesthesia. Treatment of an inguinal hernia is always surgery – even in infants
As a rule, it is best to postpone umbilical hernia repair until the age of 4, as most hernias will heal on their own by then.
Depending on the patient and age, skin lesions can be removed under general anesthesia or sedation.
Most foreskin problems can be resolved with medicated creams. I do not perform surgery without a medical reason.
Most fractures in children heal without intervention and with short cast treatments.
Undescended testicles can be diagnosed at 6 months of age. Until then, the testicles can still descend spontaneously.
Pediatric Surgery
Pediatric surgery is a specialty focused on pediatric orthopedics, pediatric urology, and general pediatric surgery. The conditions treated include various injuries, fractures, hernias, abscesses, foreskin and testicular problems, and congenital pediatric surgical problems.
